Last night, I thought I'd bloghop a bit to see what kind of person is interested in German Shepherds... other than me. Don't do that! Don't look for people who have any kind of animal listed in their interests... because the truth is that you are destined to cry... I cried and cried last night... not those little tear streaks running down your cheek, but blubbering, sobbing, my heart is breaking kind of crying... Why you ask?
Because I learned of Gracie Gurl. Now I will not put you through the heart-wrenching torment that I subjected my husband and then my daughter to... the story of Gracie's impaired health, the bleeding nose, the details of her last day with her loving owner, the trip to the vet to have her put to sleep, and the beautiful expression in her German Shepherd face... trust me, you would be sobbing if I gave you those details. Gracie's owners stopped posting not long after her death, which has left me in limbo all day. Wondering... did they get another GSD? Why didn't the breeder give them a pup because their little hearts were broken, dammit!! I'd have given them one! Gracie passed away months ago... but the pain is still fresh for me!
I shared this story with my daughter because she shared a story with me about 3 weeks ago about puppy mills! About poor little dogs with their legs eaten by other dogs and left to suffer... about horrifying conditions, and sad abused dogs. I shared the story with my husband because he shared with me details of a couple characters in a novel he's presently reading - characters that are sadistic and more than a little twisted.. I guess the plot is good - he didn't choose to share THAT information with me... only the parts that made me wince.
You know that commercial with the abused dogs... with Sarah McLaughlin's song playing... "Will You Remember Me?"... I can't watch that commercial without wanting to go adopt a dog at the shelter... right NOW! There's another one with the dogs all sad because their owners took them to the shelter and they just want to go HOME, because they don't know what they've done wrong to make their owner leave them...
OKAY!!!! That's enough! This isn't a good way to spend a Tuesday night either!!!!

Damn it. It's 11:25pm, I'm sitting in bed reading your blog, getting ready to close my eyes for a peaceful night's sleep, and BAM.
Now, I'm going to have to read 15 other blogs just to get this vision out of my mind.
Oh well, I have to catch up with some others anyway...
